Metal Skills

Introduction

During the end of my second year of engineering, I did my work experience at Metal Skills in East Tamaki. Metal Skills is a small sheet processing factory. Primarily the company cuts parts from sheets of aluminium or mild steel using lasers or punches. Further processing, including folding, deburring, haegar and welding are often done by Metal Skills to these parts. I got the position of Engineering Coordinator and spend approximatly 200 hours doing sub-professional hours which involved moving information from an old database of archived .gif format images of scanned works orders. The main concern was with the times taken for a part to be produced, and times for lasers etc were found an estimated using the old database, and entered into the new database.
