File Nomenclature

For the sound files in the Softeng206 database the following is the nomenclature as agreed in class: SSLWV.ext, where SS is the speaker code (see [Vocab]), L is the language code (h=Hindi,e=English,a=Arabic,m=Mandarin,f=French), W is the word code (0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9), V is the version code (a,b,c), and ext is the extension of the file eg wav.

For for example 08f9b.wav is a wav file from speaker 08, it is french, and is the word "neuf" - which is the digit 9, and it is the speakers spoken second version of that word.

mgha023 'D I G I T - You'll dig it', is a number learning aid for young adults.

--> Teaches both Hindi and English numbers.Option to choose between male and female voices. --> Practice mode to listen to numbers and display wave forms --> Test mode allows user to record numbers, play them back, compare with original. Also translates to other language.

hals016 Phone Number Translator

Takes in a number (by means of voice recognition input) of upto 10 digits and says the number back in another language. The language recognised and the language translated have all 5 language capabilities, English, Mandarin, Arabic, Hindi, French.

rbha033 "Travel Translator" is a number translator for young adults travelling to other countries. It allows you to hear the numbers in practice mode in all the different languages for you to learn. Then in Translation mode, it was designed to record your voice and allow you to choose a language to translate it back to you. Unfortunately this feature is still not enabled due to time and technical constraints, but shall be finished by the end of the week. Inspite of this, the software has met all the criterion of a language learning aid as set out by the brief, as the brief does not mention voice recognition is required. So if you wanted to learn how to count in different languages, you can do that using this software. The software makes use of the languages English, Hindi, Mandarin and Arabic. Also the voice recognition works very well through the command line, but not at all through the GUI.

gfun006 This speech recognition program gives young adults a chance to translate the numbers 0 - 9 to 5 different languages. The users can choose from the langauges English, Hindi, Arabic, French and Mandarin. There is a mode for straight translation, where the user will be able to say a number it will translate it to the language they desire. A second mode is one where a user is able to test whether they are able to pronounce the words correctly. A neat feature is that depending on what language the user chooses, the numbers will be displayed in that specific language.
hpan027 Language learning aid aimed at age 15-25. Installation: the "FinalProject.zip" contains the folder with everything already set up. Extract and run VRec.tcl from the main project directory. Three modes. (1) Practice: where the user can hear the numbers as well as record their own version for some feedback. (2) Listen: where the user attempts to identify the number spoken via a multichoice system. (3) Speak: where the user attempt to remember the pronunciation of a number without any aid.
sshi080 myNumbers is a highly extensible application that touches young adults how to count 0-9 in foreign languages. The applications keeps most of TK's original elements for native look & feel on different environments.

It comes built in with Chinese (Mandarin) and French recognition and sounds. However due to the high modularity of myNumbers, end users and other developers can easily integrate new languages into myNumbers by simply editing the languages.conf file. (Please read section "Adding new languages" for instructions).

The program is split into two main sections, first users can learn using the learn mode. After being familiar with the numbers users can use the test mode to test their progress.

jsmi233 Targeted at young children, simple and engaging interface. Press record, say a word in any language, press stop.
zyan057 Language Learning Aid is a language learning application for young adults. Learning mode consists of basic learning of the language, such as playing the number and recognizing the user input from the mic. Also the user can select a specified speaker and the version to listen to, defult is random. Challenge mode consist of a game which the user starts off with 100 HP and depends how accurate they say the number the HP will decrease or increase. It ends when the user's HP reaches 0. And the user can save the score and view the scores in the high scores.
vpup001 Translator - Learn to say numbers in Hindi 0-9

It is targeted at young adults. You can learn how to say numbers in Hindi - Recognizes the English numbers and translates them to Hindi. You can test how good you can say the numbers in Hindi - Recognizes the Hindi numbers. It has a help option. You need to put it in the HOME DIRECTORY (be it laptop or university computers) to make it work as apposed to what I said in the read me file that you need to put it in the UNIXHOME. It requires tcl/tk 8.5 to work or just have to 'find and replace' wish8.5 in all the files to 'wish' to make it work. Sorry for the inconvenience!

tlou006 Language learning program targeted at students/adults learning a new language. Can listen to sample words, then attempt them yourself. Recognises what you say and translates into the other language. Has a memory based game, involves saying the sequence of numbers in order. Basic/minimalistic GUI designed for blind people(WIP lol). Requires wish8.5 to run.
apra102 Learning and testing language aid for the children of age 6-11. Can learn and test in Hindi and English languages. Learn has options to learn a language and test has options to test the language. I did not make the speaker random because as its for children I made only one person to translate for Hindi and one person to translate in English.
srag014 NumLearn-A language learning aid for young adults and adults. Can learn a variety of langauages including mandarin,french, hindi and arabic. Can also test your english. Click the appropriate langague you want to learn and it will take you to a page with 3 options. First option is the listen and learn option where user can flick through each number with images which also has the spelling of the word and can also listen to the word being said by a random user everytime the play buttons clicked. The second option is the test yourself option where user can record their prounciation of the word and get feedback on what the recognizer recognized.The final option is the guessing game option where user has to listen to the word and guess the word. Note:Guessing game not included for test your english option as it makes no sense to play english words and have the user guess it back in english.

Note2:In readme I said to copy the database to MyProject folder..but its already included in that folder.

dols008 Language learning aid aimed at young adults. Designed from the perspective of an english speaker learning Arabic, Hindi, Mandarin or French. Metaphrase means direct translation.
klod004 A game that teaches you how to say numbers from 0-9 in the language that you choose. The START THE FUN button takes you to the actual game and you are supposed to speak the language that you want to learn (from the list on the right hand side).
twon069 One2Three is a number learning aid for children. To start the program, simply extract the content, and run LAid.tcl with "wish8.5 LAid.tcl". Read REAME for more details. The program has 2 mode, 1) "Start Learning" enables children to listen to the number said in the desireable language, and also test whether they are saying it correctly with the Record button. 2) "Game Room" is a mini-game which stimulates the children's ability to memorize and pronounce the words properly. Both mode contain a HELP button which include instruction on how to run the program.
jhor053 A telephone dialling app for children. When completed its used for helping children for dialling. It allows to select a language to allow for more accurate translation and possibly to have language specific help and dialling screens. Currently it doesnt support voice only pressing keys 0-9 and s for silence. Silence is used for ending number selection and dialing.
sbha077 LangAid is an application targeted for a universal audience - both for young children and young adults. It doubles up both as number translator as well as a "phone number translator" application. There is a learn/practice mode and a test mode. The user can choose from all five planned languages - English, French, Hindi, Arabic and Mandarin. Currently, it doesn't have the oral to oral translation capability implemented so you have to use the keypad/numpad. However, after some design tweaks and setting up the translation engine, it should work pretty well. Due to the time restraint, there will still be bugs/errors but I hope they won't be too much of a hindrance.
jpar277 My language aid assume the user already knows English. Its designed for people to learn Hindi or Arabic. Its targeted for a more older audience - 18+
