Comments from John Hamer

  • why 100 samples? You were asked to justify your choice of sample size. This is important. If you get it wrong, you risk collecting worthless data. How confident are you in your value?
  • nice to see you using the 2007 HTTB. However, you appear to have simply copy and pasted some text without any apparent understanding. Given that you have read this resource, why did you persist in using a sample size of 100?

You really don't have very much to show for two hours work. Your report should contain enough to indicate how you spent the time.

There is no analysis of the data you have collected. This is not adequate. The lab had a task: to rank the hash functions in order from best to worst. You have not collected any data at all on most of the hash functions, and do not appear to have addressed the task. If you had, you would have found plenty to report on in your reflective essay. The numbers from the stats tests are clearly important in determining the ranking of the functions, but it's not obvious what numbers are "good" and which are "bad". Appreciating that you (a) need to know this and (b) don't know this would then give you something to work on. Develop a strategy to find the answers. That might involve asking the tutor or lecturer, which would put you on the path to making progress with the lab.

Being faced with material that you don't understand is a normal part of working life. You must develop strategies for coping with this.
