Due to my lack of background in software engineering, I found this first lab especially difficult, frustrating and rather unproductive. The problem was compounded by my lack of a valid user name to log onto windows in the computer lab, but instead had to log on with linux with which I am not familiar.

Luckily, once I managed to get the computer going, helpful classmates beside me directed me to available online powerpoint lectures for level 1 papers software papers, which gave me some idea about the knowledge I am supposed to have acquired prior to this class.

Then, as my classmates began to produce plausible results, I could only look at their work, and try to understand what and how they produced their results. It was only with detailed explanations that I was able to understand what they've done, though I doubt I'd be able to reproduce such work by myself, as I lack the most basic knowledge about the programming language C++.

If I remain in this class, I will have a substantial amount of catch-up work before to finish before I will be able to complete class work and participate related discussion.
