'''Aim''':To write software that can store the details of each building - address, age, type of construction etc. It will then run an existing algorithm (currently done via desk top paper, pen and calculator) to check the building and determine if it requires a more comprehensive seismic assessment. 

'''Further development''': The ability to sort the data - i.e. how many of the total building set are of a given age, or of a certain risk category. Aim: better data about the characteristics of NZ's earthquake risk buildings.

The Auckland City Council (ACC) requires a database system designed and developed, in which to store photographs, plans, numerical data and text for assessment of the earthquake safety of buildings in the Auckland city area.
This project will investigate various open-source/free database solutions to determine the most suitable. An application and database will be designed and developed to record this information and carry out analysis of it to generate reports. Investigation will be conducted into the future needs of such a system in terms of expansion and integration with other systems. Eventually the system could be used by all the councils in New Zealand
